The pretty stuff you see on the internet
Web design as a whole covers the conceptualisation, planning, modelling, and execution of electronic media content delivery via Internet in the form of technologies (such as PHP, XHTML, and flash animation) suitable for interpretation and display by a web browser or other internet enabled devices.
When considering web design we believe the following values hold the utmost importance:
- Usability - the site should be user-friendly, with the interface and navigation simple and reliable.
- Appearance - the graphics and text should include a single style that flows throughout, to show consistency. The style should be professional, appealing and relevant.
- Defining your audience - a website sells itself the same way traditional marketing does. www.club18-30.com and www.saga.co.uk both sell holidays, but look entirely different!
- 3 click rule - it doesn’t always hold true for every page in a website but at the very least all the main areas should be able to be accessed within three clicks. If users can't find what they're looking for within these three clicks, they're likely to get frustrated and leave the site.
- Visibility - the site must be easy to find via most, if not all, major search engines and advertisement media.
- Layout - the majority of nationalities read left to right, top to bottom. They look at websites the same way, so where shall we put the most important links and content?
- Communication of intent - far too often a website can seem to be shrouded in mystery and the intent isn’t clear. When all it takes is one click to dismiss your website and move on to a competitor, is it worth the risk?
Here at gasp design we take all this and more into account when designing your website. Why would you risk placing your 24/7 advertisement in the hands of anyone else?
